Hospice in the Weald is a local charity which we are extremely passionate about. We have employees who have had loved ones cared for by the incredible staff at the hospice, so we love to do anything we can to raise money for them and support their charity.
They provide 24-hour support and care for patients with a terminal illness as well as their families. Since they are not part of the NHS, they need to raise £7 million every year to continue providing their life-changing services to people who really need them.
Fortunately for us at itris, we are all given one day per year to volunteer for one of our local charities and yesterday it was Hospice in the Weald’s turn after our last group spent the day at Pepenbury.
We sent two groups of our employees down there to help create clay flowers for their annual Forget Me Not Appeal which kicks off next spring. The idea behind the campaign is that people can remember their loved ones and cherish their memories with a Forget Me Not. The flowers get displayed in three different locations all local to us; Wilderness Wood, Dunorlan Park and Riverhill Himalayan Gardens where they also host Ceremonies of Dedication. Hospice in the Weald encourage a minimum donation of £25 for each flower but this year their average donation was just under £50 which is amazing!
Between the two groups, we made or painted 113 flowers in total which roughly equates to £2825 raised, based on the minimum donation. We’re so pleased to have been able to volunteer and also learn more about what our help really does for them after having a tour of the hospice.
Thank you so much to everyone who volunteered and for Hospice in the Weald for having us!
